Every day is a busy day at the Mombasa Mission. On Sunday we see children walking down the road to the mission to attend Sunday School. But, it is not only those walking that attend the Sunday School. Very early Sunday mornings, 2 drivers go around to the surrounding villages with the mission mini-buses to collect children that express an interest in God’s Word. And not only one trip, but 3! By 9:30 around 200-250 children’s voices fill the chapel in song in Swahili. Then it quiets down as Hannah Kingham, with the aid of a translator, tells a story from the Bible. The children listen attentively, occasionally shushing their little sibling(s). After the story, activities take place. It is difficult to gauge the ability level, as some younger children who go to school are able to complete the more complex assignments, while some older children have difficulty with the simpler assignments. The group is varied, but one thing is evident, they really enjoy it all!
It isn’t long before adults start trickling in for the morning service. The children begin to clean up pencils and crayons and bring their work to Hannah. They then go find a seat again to be ready for the service. Afterwards they are treated to tea and a biscuit. Smiles and happiness stream from them as they board the bus to go to their homes.
